Come, listen O Love to the voice of the dove,
Come, hearken and hear him say,
"There are many Tomorrows, my Love, my Love,
There is only one Today."
excerpt from The Voice of the Dove by Joaquin Miller

Margaret is graciously allowing me to link to her Joaquin Miller website. To view Margaret's fabulous website and see the immense amount of information and photos she has researched and gathered, click on the link below.
A note from Dottie Smith:
Joaquin Miller is one of my all-time favorite historical persons. I like Joaquin for a lot of reasons. Not just because he was a great writer, and a great poet, but because of everything else all rolled up into what made him into what he was. He was a tough guy to figure out, and once I did, I liked him even more because I think I know why he did what he did. For starters, he was one of the very few who truly understood the Indian people. He lived with them. He fell in love with an Indian girl and married her. He wrote about the Indian people. And he also told little white lies in his stories about them – but it was for a reason. To protect them.
Joaquin Miller was regarded as one of the West’s great early writers. He lived right here in northern Shasta County for six years with the McCloud River Wintu people becoming one of the first white men to live with the Indians. Before that, he lived in a gold mining camp with ‘Mountain Joe’, another legend in his own right, on the nearby Sacramento River. He was supposedly inspired to write because of the rage and indignation he felt regarding the inhumane treatment of Indians by the white people.
The best person in this world to find anything you would want to know about Joaquin Miller is Margaret Guilford-Kardell. Margaret has been diligently researching him for years. I believe she knows more about him than anyone else alive.
